Soul Rainbow Painting by Elizabeth Harper

Ever since I was a little girl I have been able to perceive auras – emanations of energy that I see as color emerging from, around and within a living or apparently none-living being or object. I believe we can all sense this energy, we just do it in varying degrees. So for instance, when you walk into a room full of people you might get a “feeling” of good or bad energy. What you’re doing is deciphering the energy. Well I take it a step further and see the color of that energy and then interpret the color.

By intention I can go even deeper into someone’s soul and see, sense and feel their true essence. We are all made of light and light is color, but because each of us are individuals, our soul light or soul rainbow is a little like your thumbprint. It is made up of colors and patterns that are unique only to you.

I was inspired to paint the energy of a soul onto silk as a way of revealing the heart of a person, but also as an affirmation of the truth of their individuality as a soul. It’s empowering to know which colors are dominant and how those colors blend together. I created a Soul Rainbow silk for myself and I was amazed to find I’d painted a dragonfly. What I didn’t know at the time was that dragonflies are a symbol of color healing and linked to fairies – two energies very close to my heart.

Painting A Soul Rainbow

The video below shows me painting a Soul Rainbow. I begin by saying a prayer and then I dowse the colors using a pendulum, which you can do too if you know how to use a pendulum. If you don’t then I’ll take you through an exercise to help you tune into your own soul rainbow.

Once I have the colors I invite my guides and angels to guide me to paint the silk. I ask which color goes first, second, third, etc. Even if I don’t know what I am going to paint I pick up the first color and ask to be inspired. I find that for some people I am shown immediately what the essence of the soul rainbow is before I even start, for others I am shown step by step in quick flashes. So bear this in mind, inspiration can come in different ways.

Before you go through the exercise below, be sure to watch the video. This will give you an idea of how I work and may serve as a support for your own inspiration, insight and intuition. I use silk and silk dyes, but I also work with watercolor paints and other forms of mixed media.  Use whatever tools feel right for you.

How To Paint Your Own Soul Rainbow:

Tools: colored pencils, crayons or paints, paper and a pendulum if you use one.

1. Begin by setting up your tools in front of you.

Separate your colors out and have them in piles of reds, oranges, yellows, etc. Then line up all the colors so you’re looking at a spectrum. This will make it easier for you to select the colors for your Soul Rainbow.

2. Now bless the area you are working in, call in the light to protect your space.

Make an intention to join with your soul and ask your angels and guides to support you as you as you journey inward to access your soul colors.

3. Close your eyes, take some deep breaths and with each breath you take imagine you are going deeper and deeper into the energy of your soul.

Allow your body to relax, if any area is tense just breath into it and invite it to relax. Take as long as you need to do this. Intuition doesn’t work as well when you’re tense and focused elsewhere.

4. Once you feel relaxed and your mind is focused on your soul, ask your guides and angels to show you the first color.

If you are visual you may see this with your eyes closed, but if you’re not then invite them to guide you to the first color as you open your eyes. Alternatively, use your pendulum to dowse the first color.

This is very subtle energy. What may happen is you will keep being drawn to an area of your colors, and even if you’re resistant to the colors at first, go with what is pulling you in. Once you have your area, narrow it down. Pick a few of the pencils or paints and place them in front of you, then close your eyes again and ask for more guidance. Keep doing this until you have narrowed it down to one color. If you can’t get it down to one color, it may be that your first color is a combination or blend, so just go with that.

* I like to take a photograph of each stage of my painting this helps me remember the details when it comes time to interpret the Soul Rainbow.

5. Now do this again for each color.

You’re going to pick four or five colors, but if your soul wants more or less colors, go with that. Make sure to place your chosen colors in a line so you remember what their placement is.

6. Once you have your colors, pick up the first color, hold it in your hand at the ready and go back to that state of oneness with your soul.

Close your eyes, breath, connect and ask your guides and angels for assistance. Invite them to reveal to you what shape to draw or paint with your first color. Once you have that shape begin your drawing. If nothing comes to you, just allow yourself to let go of what it might look like and gently move the color around the paper with no particular focus in mind until you feel its time to stop. Let go of judgment here. Go with the flow of energy and see what emerges.

8. When you finish your Soul Rainbow say thank you to your guides and angels for helping you and now ask them to guide you to interpret its meaning.

Use a journal or a separate piece of paper to write down the colors used. Underneath each color, detail the shapes, the meanings of both shapes and colors, and any messages that might come up for you too.

9. On completion again say thank you to your guides and angels, to the light and to your soul for working with you.

Your energy will have ballooned up to work psychically, so first cleanse your energy through by imagining you are standing under a spotlight of light and its luminescence is showering through your energy field. Now invite your aura to release the excess energy you’ve picked up into the earth. As you do this imagine the edges of your auric field drawing closer to your body.

Next, make an intention to reduce the dimensions of your chakras so they are back to normal size for you – this is something I always do, I go chakra by chakra, but your intention to close down will be just as effective.

Once you feel like you have come back to earth it’s time to ground yourself through your root chakra – feet – and at the same time make an intention to keep connected with the Divine through your crown chakra – head.

Finally, wrap yourself in a cloak of protection, whatever color feels right for you and place yourself in a bubble of light so that you are available and yet always protected.

Keep A Journal Of Your Soul Rainbows

Periodically tune in and go through this exercise again. Keep a journal of your Soul Rainbow images to map out the changes that occur within you.  You might find the colors stay the same and it’s just the images that change. Even so, go through the interpretative part of the exercise, you may discover new meanings to those colors.

I would love to know how you get on tuning in, painting and interpreting your Soul Rainbow. Please share in the comments below and if you had any “A-Ha” moments.
